Social & Cultural

For years NAA has actively organised and participated in many social activities and interaction with other communities with the goal of promoting and preserving Nepalese culture in Australia. Regular get together, Family fun days, barbecue & general meetings bringing everyone together and sharing strategic activities needed to achieve the goals of NAA.  

NAA activities include:

  • Participating in social activities, discussions, seminars etc
  • Financial support to educational projects and national disaster fund in Nepal.
  • Good relationship with other organisation.
  • The services are sensitive to the values and cultural background of those being assisted.
  • Organised Free Member BBQ on 21.06.08. The purpose of the BBQ was to increase membership base by reaching out to new members and encouraging them to participate in Nepalese community activities to achieve our common goals. (June 2008)
  • Sponsored the team of Maha jodi, Richa Sharma and Narendra Kansakar to perform a stage show in Sydney in April 2007.
  • NAA sponsored a team of 12 singers and musicians from Nepal in Sydney in May 2005. The team performed Nepali musical night in Sydney and Melbourne.
  • A picnic was organized at Woronora Dam on the 25 the June to celebrate the success of the concert and thank members of the Association, representatives of other Nepalese organizations, sponsors and volunteers were also present in the picnic.
  • Live concert was organised at Bexley on 1st of January 2006 to celebrate New Year. An Australian band, which included a Nepali lead singer, performed in the night.  Buffet dinner was also organised in the night.
  • NAA assisted HeNN Sydney chapter (a global charity organization) to raise funds in September 2006.
  • NAA was invited to join Deepawali Festival Committee to celebrate the festival of light at the New South Parliament House in Sydney. The president participated on behalf of the organization.
  • NAA organised Deusey/Bhailo night in October to celebrate Tihar bhailo. The Deusey had participants from Nepali community of around 20 people. It started from Granville at 7pm and finished midnight at Nepali restaurant in Oxford Street, City. The bhailo program helped NAA to raise some funds that would be used for community work and admin expenses of the organization. The aim of the program was to promote Nepali culture and tradition in Sydney among Nepali people.
  • Stand-up Comedy was organised at Hurstville Hall on 2009 performed by Manoj Gajureel. Show was a real success.

The Nepalese Australian Association (NAA) was established in 1976 with the objectives of assisting newly arrived Nepalese and to act as an unofficial embassy in providing information about Nepal to Australians.
